First Blog Journal Post: About Me, My Technological Experience, and What I Want To Learn

My full name is Anna Christine Miller, I was born on September 18, 1998, in Tallahassee, but I grew up in Spanish Fort, Alabama. I am a literature and psychology double-major, and after undergrad I want to pursue my doctorate in British literature. I grew up playing tennis and running cross country and have always been relatively athletic. My hobbies include traveling, reading, watching Netflix, spending time with friends and family, and writing. Additionally, I have a mini Goldendoodle named Sophie, she is six years old, and she is like my daughter.

For the first decade and a half or so, my experience with technology in education was limited to essentially just a smartboard projector, typing papers on my parents' desktop computer, watching educational videos or movies, and printing various things out. However, at the beginning of my sophomore year of high school, my school gave all the students MacBook Airs. This shifted my learning experience from mostly taking hand-written notes to typing my notes on my computer. However, we still used textbooks, and I still preferred to print out my notes and study using that hardcopy. Furthermore, I cannot remember the exact year, but my teachers began using turnitin.com to verify the originality of all the papers I turned in.

In this class I hope to learn more about technology overall, and specifically how that technology is beneficial in the classroom. Specifically, how I can use technology to find literary research and sources that I will later be able to share with my students. This is important to me as I ultimately want to become a professor. Given that I will be a professor in about eight years or so, the technology will obviously have progressed, but this class will give me a educational foundation that I do not yet have.

  1. That is very interesting about the MacBook Airs and how it changed for you. I am personally super old school and like writing my notes but I can see how it is super helpful! and I am obsessed with dogs. I have a 12 year old cocker spaniel poodle mix named Cosmo. He is the love of my life! Good luck on your major!!!
